Dear WorMz,
As everyone at WorMee loves music – and never the same music – we’ve had a great time putting together OUR best of 2009. We’ve suspended all critical judgment and simply included our favourites! Happy New Year to you all!

- Adeline Lajoinie
(Job: journalist – Pseudo: The drill with the quill)
Wax Tailor feat. ASM “Say Yes”
An irresistible hit that unfortunately went unnoticed this summer. The French DJ and producer shows what a brilliant sound chemist he is and that he’s realised hip-hop has is only really ever a success when it’s mixed with other musical genres.
- Alex Levy
(Job: Rhymester in the Americas – Pseudo: Van The Man)
Jay-Z “Empire State Of Mind”
Jay-Z may sing really badly, but it’s a good tune and well produced.
- Juliette WorMee
(Job: Chief chatterbox; PR, you know! – Pseudo: Juliette)
Lady Gaga “Poker Face”
Because the new pretender to the throne proves she’s ready to pounce! Madonna’s going to have to watch out!
- Vincent Brunner
(Job: Journalist – Pseudo: Give me pop pop pop pop)
La Roux “Bulletproof”
There are probably smarter, more unexpected choices, but this synthesizer song slowly spins its magic. It’s memorable, light and catchy, and never becomes tedious however much you play it. I could also have chosen ‘Quicksand’, which is also a great tune.
- Antoine Claudé
(Job: Musical miner – Pseudo: ant_1)
Peaches “I Fell Cream”
I chose this track because Peaches has really come on, and she’s produced and inspired blend of rock, pop, hip-hop and electronica here. One of the icons of electroclash. I Feel Cream demonstrates once more than Peaches’ style is unique. Having supported Björk in 2003, this is her real take-off and she’s kept all the energy that made her a live act to be reckoned with.
I Feel Cream is the first single from her new album. Remixed or not, it’s a track that fits in nightclub mixes as well as it does on your iPod for a trip on the underground. It’s certainly staying on mine.
- Matthias Lebreton
(Job: Lowering the team’s average age and upping its trendiness! – Pseudo: SuperWorMz)
Phoenix “1901″
Because this track proves once more that Phoenix are the kings of pop! Long live the lads from Versailles!
- Nicolas Brunet
(Job: Commander of Special Operations and prankster – Pseudo: SugarNiko)
Island “The Whitest Boy Alive”
Erlend Oye takes a timeout from Kings of Convenience and heads south from his native Norway for a bit of electro with some German mates.
“Island” is the last track on the album “Rules’, a nugget of ‘folk dance’ from Berlin to keep us cheerful.
- Shy Shriqui
(Job: Bizdev Masta – Pseudo: Shy)
Moskowitz Remix (Abraham Inc, David Krakauer)
Abraham Inc’s “Moskowitz” is the epitome of eclecticism: a clarinet klezmer melody, an entrancing electro riff and the funk of Fred Wesley’s trombone playing. It’s good to see people still making (some) real music in 2009!
- Brigitte Batcave
(Job: Juliette’s other half – Pseudo: bibi21)
Benjamin Biolay “Brandt Rhapsodie”
- Julien Hodara
(Job: Da Boss – Pseudo: Hodara)
Brett Dennen “San Francisco”
This is just too good!
- Sebastien Czubak
(Job: Decoder – Pseudo: Eugwormz)
The Hickey Underworld “Zero Hour”
- Olivier Granoux
(Job: editor-in-chief – Pseudo: straight edge)
Matt & Kim “Lessons learned”
Because it’s beautiful to make music with next to nothing that sounds far better than anything else. And because when you listen to this track on your headphones, you feel invincible. Try it and you’ll see.
- Jean-Louis Constanza
(Job: representing the shareholders – Pseudo: Spark)
- Guillaume Ley
(Job: Journalist – Pseudo: Metal Up Your Ass)
Mastodon “Oblivion”
Because these bearded wonders from Atlanta showed that tunes could be played with loud guitars and not just produce crap ballads. “Oblivion” is one of the highpoints of 2009 metal.
- Yves Le Jan
(Job: Mobile geek – Pseudo: inliner)
Weezer “Can’t stop partying”
Because Weezer are still as weezy and breezy as ever and now they’ve brought in Lil Wayne to rap with them. Which means this is almost a bootleg… and “Screw rehab I love my addiction. No sleep, no sleep, I am always on a mission ’cause”!
- Damien Duchaussoy
(Job: Marketing vulture – Pseudo: dam2500)
Boost & Bim Feat. Brisa Roche & Lone Ranger “Jamaican boy”
America or Jamaica? No contest
- Vrej Minassian
(Job: High-priest of PR and marketing, brand ayatollah – Pseudo: CrazyWormz)
Kid Cudi “Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)”
The perfect fusion of hip-hop, pop and electro.
- Cécile Pfeiffer
(Job: Head of editorial and partnerships – Pseudo: GlamorousWormz)
Jay-Z ” D.O.A”
Because the sampling is amazing, because we’re all fed up with auto-tune and because this track proves Jay-Z is the undisputed boss of US hip-hop.
P.S. But I still prefer Nas
- Pierre Bonnefoy
(Job: Mechanic – Pseudo: Lord.farquaad)
Olivia Ruiz – Christian Olivier : “6 mètres”
Not even a real song, but it’s the lyrics, the spontaneity and Christian Olivier’s vocals that do it. It’s the only 2009 track I’ve listened to on my MP3 more than once in a row this year.
- Anna-Livia Cardin
(Job: RadioMee’s short-sighted visionary – Pseudo: alaeris)
Lily Allen “Fuck You”
Happy New Year!
